New workshop of enamel
This week I'm teaching a completely new workshop of enamel. It's always exciting to teach it for the first time and as usual it's always a race to get everything done on time. But all orders have arrived, the leaflet is written, the examples are finished, the slideshow ... yeah that's one thing I still have to do.
I am really looking forward to the workshop and to the results of this week. This year's workshop is full, but you can already register for the workshops of 2013! The new program is online.

Workshop chasing and repoussé
Two weeks ago I teached a new workshop, which is always really exciting! Repoussé is a technique, which allows you to transform flat metal sheet into a 3D relief. You hammer at the backside of the sheet. Chasing is the finishing work you do at the front side. During this workshop we started by making some brass and wooden tools and hammering some simple forms. After that the students started working on their own design.
Celine Clossa working on a big brooch.
Marleen Vande Vyver hammering a pendant. The two small stripes will be bent into little rings.
Roos De Krom hammering a twig motive into a silver bracelet. (Click on the photo to see the enlarged image, it's worth it!)
I have always been fond of this technique myself. I started making some wings as an example for the workshop, but I like it a lot. So I'm thinking about designing a new collection based on these wings. I only have one problem: too many designs and not enough hours in one day!! Well, I'll just add it to my to do-list...
This workshop will definitely be back on the programme next year. And then I'll make it three days in stead of two! Time passes so fast when you're hammering :)
Here is a picture I forgot to post last time, but I like it so much I really wanted to share it with you. This pendant was made by Naomi Van Varewijck during the phototechnique workshop. Nicely done! She will also be our intern this school year :)

Phototechniques on polymer clay
We had a full house during the latest workshop of phototransfers. Get a whiff of all the hard work:
Flames in black and white by Annelies Servaes.
A look at the workbench of Tine Sibbens.
Fitting and sawing a claw setting by Marianne De Maeyer.
On a side note, I have bought a bunch of the liquid polymer clay (liquid sculpey), because it is not always easy to find. As of now it is available in the gallery.
Soon I will start working on the workshop programme of 2013. The goal for this year is to get it finished in september!! Really... I'll try to make the deadline this year :)

Meeting Amy Tavern
A few weeks ago, Amy Tavern visited our gallery. She is a jewelry designer from the USA. She resides in Antwerp for a couple of months to work on a new project.
I really love her work and when I saw on facebook that she was in the country, I sent her a message. She is currently working at the Beyond FashionGallery, just a couple of blocks from our place. In September she will have an exhibition there and she will also give a lecture about her work. That will be worth a visit!
On her blog you can follow how her project is evolving and what Belgian influences will determine her work. I also find it quite amusing to read how a foreigner experiences our cities, shops and chocolate. Take a look at her blog.

On TV
At the end of April we received Zoë Van Gastel in gallery TWEE. She made a report for the program Hotspot on Antwerp television. Take a look in our gallery and get a little preview of our workshop "ring in lost wax".
