Jewelry on order

These pieces were made on order. My client received the black pearl as a gift from her mother, who bought it in Tahiti. She wanted a special ring with taut lines: here is the result.
I also made this pair of earrings for her.

I received a delivery today, from a company that sells material for tooth technicians and I found a very funny gift in the box: tooth-paste :)

A day off

Yesterday I worked really hard in my studio and afterwards I teached a workshop untill 10pm. My head was still full of work when I went to sleep... of course it kept me up most of the night. So I woke up with a bad headache! I never really intended to take the day off, I just never got to work :)

I started my day by making a delicious jar of jam (cherries, white berries, strawberries and a lime). After that I took a long bath. And then I noticed that we had our first day of bright sunshine in a long time, so I spent the rest of the day out in the garden!

I dig up the coriander, cut off the seeds and put them in the sun to dry.
The strawberries, tomatos and zucchini are starting to grow, delicious.
Puk thinks I should spent more days in the garden, but change the schedule to less reading and more throwing away her ball!
The flowers are starting to grow.
And finally I did something usefull and mow the lawn.

Gift certificate

I've got something new in my webshop (actually I still have to update it, but will do soon!): a gift certificate. You can choose the value, it's valid for a year and can be used for jewelry as well as for the workshops. Here's the first view:

Opening: The New Harvest

Yesterday evening I went to the openingnight of The New Harvest. I made paper dolls to present my work especially for this exhibition and I was very happy with the result.
This really is the best way my jewelry has been presented so far.
Here you can take a look at all the pictures.

New toys :)

I have been longing to lay my hands on this new material for some time now. Well now I finally ordered it from a dentist shop. Yes this is all meant to be used by tooth technicians, but of course I have a much better destiny for it: jewelry! Yaay

I can't wait to start working with it, but first I need to finish some orders, make a new workshop programme and draw a new collection...hmm. That can take some time.

The New Harvest

Every year, Design Flanders organises two selections in a search for new design talent. These designers work in different fields of design.

In 2008 I participated in one of the selections and I was chosen together with 12 other designers. During this exhibition we will all be showing our work for two months in the Design Flanders Gallery in the centre of Brussels.

Design Flanders gallery: Kanselarijstraat 19, 1000 Brussel
The exhibition runs from the 12th of june till the 19th of august 2009.

Preparing for The New Harvest

The last two weeks I have been working on two new necklaces, that will be on show (together with some older work) in The New Harvest exhibition in Brussels. Here is a preview.
Habibi: silver and gold leaf
Rise: thread, silver, gold leaf and horn
I also made six paper models to present my work. I've been planning to do this for a long time now, but never found the time. It took some work, but I am very pleased with the result.

Pictures workshops

The workshops from the spring and summer programme are almost finished. Only two more to go: soldering and weaving in silver. You can take a look at the photoreport here. There are some pictures missing though, I can't find the ones from 'knotting pearls' anywhere. I really hope I find them soon. Participants who took pictures for themselves, feel free to email them!

Workshop : locks in silver

I have changed one of the workshops in the programme a bit. Several people asked me if I could teach about making locks. The announcement is a bit late, but I couldn't find another moment to teach it this season.

The workshop takes place at saturday morning on the 13/06, 20/06 and 27/06. I will explain a different lock every lesson. After that you can work on a little supply for yourself. There are still 4 places available. The prize is 95€. Subscription by email at

Rapid metal manufacturing and tin casting

Yesterday I went on a field trip together with the students of the jewelry department of the academy in Antwerp. There were some extra seats available on the bus and I was very pleased that I was welcome to join them. Sadly I forgot to take my camera with me, I found all the pictures that you see here on the internet.

In the morning we visited the company Layerwise in Louvain. This company developed an amazing technology in collaboration with the university of Louvain. You deliver them a three dimensional computer design and they print it out for you in metal! This is done with a laser that heats layer by layer of the object in a recipient with very fine metal powder. With this technique they can create objects that were impossible to make out of one piece up untill today. This technology is mostly used for technical and medical employment, but there are some artists that are already using this technique aswell. Bathsheba Grosmann is one of them.

The company Mgx Materialise specializes in design objects made with this technique. They mostly print their objects in nylon and polyester.
They showed us the machines to do this, but unfortunately they were not printing. I never liked working on the computer. But the possibilities of this technique encouraged me to go and study 3D design on the computer.

In the afternoon we visited the tinfactory Riskin in Tongeren. This was located in a very beautiful old chocolate factury.
They showed us how the pewter objects are manufactured under high pressure. I really liked the colour of the pewter. The production price of a series of objects is quite low, so I will be trying this technique within a few months!

New work

It has been a while since I posted some pictures of new jewelry, but it's coming! I am working on two collections for the moment. The new commercial collection is named Floris Mirabilis and contains a lot of pieces already. The starting point of this collection are organic little flowers. Most of them are made in silver with the lost wax technique, but now I am also experimenting with polymerclay.

Wednesday a friend is coming over to pose for the new pictures (hopefully the sun will be shining), I will put the new collection online next weekend!

I don't have a name yet for the new artistic collection. This one will probably consist of 5 necklaces. I found inspiration in old renaissance and baroque jewelry this time. Here is a little preview.
