Soldering in gold

During the past years, I often heard from students that they would love to work with gold, but are afraid to do so. During this workshop you can it under supervision.

We take a look at the specific properties and alloys of red, yellow and white gold. We look at the basic principles of alloy calculation. You make your own alloy that you make into a plate or wire, depending on your design.

If it is the first time you make this design, it is recommended to first practice it in silver. You can do that in advance at home, but it is also possible to do it in the studio.

The studio closes from 13h till 14h for a lunch break. There are many eating facilities in the neighborhood.

  • 10 grams of pure copper
  • 10 grams of fine silver
  • borax powder
  • use of studio equipment
  • instruction leaflet
  • drink and biscuit

Bring yourself:

  • a soft charcoal block in which a casting channel can be made
  • for white gold: a clean mini crucible
  • fine gold: quantity depends on your design (min. 5 grams, max. 10

   grams for 1 color gold)

  • gold solder (in the color gold you want to use): soft, medium and

hard (0.5 grams of each), write the melting temperature down

  • pencil
  • paper
  • possibly an apron
  • tool case with material (for sawing, drilling, filing, soldering, ...)
